The project
Our dolphin, turtle, shark and ray research volunteer program is set in the heart of the breathtaking  Bazaruto Archipelago National Park. Here you will play a vital role in the studyof Mozambique’s oldest marine protected area, home to the last viable population of dugongs in East Africa. What's included

Project work

Learn about oceanography and contribute to marine research through marine debris monitoring, wildlife mapping, species ID and lab work.

Accommodation

Comfortable shared accommodation with bunk beds, shared bathrooms, a laundry service and limited Wi-Fi.

Meals

Enjoy three delicious and nutritious meals per day prepared by our in-house cooks using fresh local produce.

Airport transfer

You will be picked up from Vilankulo Airport (VNX) and transferred by boat to Benguerra Island.

Comprehensive pre-departure support

Includes a dedicated support coordinator to answer your questions, an Essential Info Pack, and a webinar to learn more about your program.

Comprehensive in-country support

Includes a welcome orientation, including safety, culture and environmental info. A Program Manager is there to support you.

24/7 mental health support

Receive support services provided by licensed professionals.

Diving gear

While we do provide dive gear and equipment, we recommend bringing your own if possible for added comfort.

Multiple dives each week

A minimum of two dives per week. The frequency of dives depends on weather and the nature of the work taking place during the season.

Park entrance fees

National park fees are included in your program.
What's not included

Flights and airport taxes, medical and travel insurance, visa costs, police or background check, additional drinks and gratuities, extra local excursions, personal items and toiletries, food and accommodation outside the research station, and diving training and certification (available at an additional cost).

Your accommodation

After an impactful day of project work, you’ll get to unwind at our volunteer accommodation, equipped with communal areas perfect for connecting with your team. Outside, our beach-front braai (BBQ) area provides enough space to relax with snacks and drinks while enjoying breathtaking views of the park and Flamingo Bay. 

 

Participants will stay in shared, single gender dorm-style rooms featuring single and double bunk beds, along with shared bathroom facilities. Private room upgrades are available upon request at an additional fee and subject to availability. 

 

Delicious meals are prepared daily by our in-house cook in our kitchen using fresh local produce. Other amenities include a TV, limited Wi-Fi, an activities centre, a workshop and an equipped laboratory.
