Course introduction

We all need access to clean water, nutritious food, and access to reliable power and transportation systems. But these resources need to be effectively managed to ensure that there is enough for everyone and that damage to the environment is minimised or, ideally, eliminated.

Complete our Climate Crisis and Sustainability course online, which is offered in partnership with the University of Richmond and UNC Charlotte, to learn about how to sustainably manage the operations of public or private organisations in a wide range of fields. Afterwards, you’ll have insight into the fundamentals of environmental sustainability and will be able to more thoughtfully pursue a career in sustainability management.

Is this course for you?

If you are passionate about sustainability and creating a balance between natural resources and organisational success, then this course is for you. This is the perfect course for those looking to explore taking up sustainability as a career, but those who would simply like to learn more about sustainability will also benefit. Everyone from high school, college and graduate students to mid-career professionals and retired seniors can join.

Skills you’ll acquire

After completing this course you’ll be able to:

Want to show colleges, universities and employers that you’ve got the knowledge and skills covered in this course? Once you’ve successfully completed any of our courses, we’ll send you a digital certificate of completion at no additional cost. The certificate will feature the official name of the course and your name. Add the certificate to your college application, your graduate school application, your job application or your LinkedIn page.

Start off by learning the key concepts and terminology used in the field of environmental sustainability. You’ll come to better understand the complex balance between meeting current development needs and ensuring a sustainable use of the earth’s resources.

Then you’ll go on to analyse real-world case studies. You’ll discuss methods being used to tackle environmental sustainability issues such as agriculture and food production, air pollution, water scarcity, transportation, urbanization and waste management and recycling. Examples of this could be investigating how local organisations are working with farmers to improve sustainability in agriculture, by replacing land clearing with organic farming methods or examining ways to replace fossil fuel expenditure with greener energy sources.

Lastly, you’ll explore the future of environmental sustainability. You’ll learn how companies can shift to become more sustainable in their operational practices, and how this will help businesses reduce waste while maximising the use of their existing resources to turn a profit.
